The migration of women,long neglected in studies of mobility,has finally come to the forefront during the last decade.This same decade has witnessed what is recognized as the largest peacetime migration in human history,the movement of rural Chinese from their villages to work in town and cities.The convergence of this theoretical focus and historical reality has meant that gender has become the focus of recent studies of labor migration in China.
