The Rockefeller Foundation is pleased to announce the annual fall competition for academic writing residency applications at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center.
As a Bellagio alumni you have experienced the Center’s unique international and interdisciplinary community and the incredible opportunity a Bellagio residency presents to individuals who want to engage in a month of focused, self-directed work, while being exposed to a broad spectrum of new thinking and ideas in the serene atmosphere of Lake Como. We hope you will support our effort to spread the word about the latest competition which opened on October 1, 2016 with a final deadline for applications on December 1, 2016. Applicants accepted during this open call will be awarded residencies in 2017.
We invite you to share the outreach flyer widely in your networks and to post the flyer on faculty listservs in addition to other communication channels. You may also want to direct prospective academic writing applicants to the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center website for additional information.
In terms of the resident profiles we aim to attract, the following criteria may help to provide some greater clarity:
-
Well-established and highly accomplished academics whose work is aligned with or may inform the discourse around the Rockefeller Foundation’s goals to build resilience and more inclusive economies. Those working on projects that relate to our focus areas are also highly encouraged (Transform Cities, Secure Livelihoods, Revalue Ecosystems and Advance Health).
-
Academics who are at an inflection point in their work—they may be ready to pivot and experiment with something new, or may be in a position to reflect and generate insights from a lifetime of experience
-
Academics whose work has the potential for significant impact—perhaps by shifting thinking in a field, or sparking new ideas
-
Academics who want to engage in a diverse cross-sector community, who are good listeners and collaborators, and who are highly intellectually curious
In addition to these criteria, we are particularly interested in attracting more applicants working in Africa, Asia or Latin America.
